Sometimes, when it comes to sports, you get so caught up in the moment that you forget what your goal is.  The same can be applied to a simple man like myself, who simply contributes to a sports-themed blog.  Over the past six weeks, I've been away from the pages of the Sportfellas, but have been keeping an eye on the sports landscape while taking in life.

Inevitably this blog will ramble, because frankly, the thoughts in my head the last month and a half have been a ramble.  While it's a passion to write about sports and the characters that make up the games, first and foremost I'm a committed husband and father, while maintaining a career.  I've also learned that there is more to the world than just the ticker on the Bottom Line.  Politics, home remodeling, and cooking have become new or renewed interests in my life.

Since we last spoke, the NCAA tournament ended (thanks to the Tar Heels for costing me a fortune), the Major League Baseball season has started (Go Rays!....?), and both the NBA and NHL Playoffs are in full swing (We Love L.A.!!!)  This myriad sports events are a writer's dream.  What more can you ask for than to discuss every sport in it's prime?  Added bonuses for Annika Sorenstam and Justine Henin announcing their retirement from their respective sports, while going out on top, on their own terms.

In case you weren't watching, there also happens to be the greatest race this country has seen shaping up in the world of politics.  The race to the White House has been an up and down battle on one side, while another team cruises to domination on it's side of the ticket.  Many thanks to Doc Rivers to killing my shot at an Western/Eastern Conference comparison here.

(While Barack Obama was showing Carolina they were weak underneath, Hillary Clinton was leading the Kansas Jayhawks to the NCAA title...under sniper fire, of course)

Most importantly, in the past six weeks, my gorgeous daughter, Madeline turned one.  She and my wife are the loves of my life, and while catching the occasional score here and there, they are the only game in town, as the expression goes.  Besides, I can intertwine my life's greatest joys by teaching little Moe to execute a perfect bounce pass (she's a southpaw, too!) or to swing a wicked 9-iron.

After some conversations with the some of our other Sportfellas (Worm, Special Ed, JJ Dynomite, and E.T.), I'm enthusiastic about trying to be more of a presence around here.  Hopefully I won't piss my pants under pressure.

(You gotta get 'em started early. A season ticket holder since birth, Maddie already stares in disgust at Pitt fans)
